Cheyenne Jackson to join 30 Rock

We're hearing rumors that Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson is set to join the cast as a permanent or semipermanent player and that he's already begun filming.

For those non-New York theatergoers out there who don't know who the hell Jackson is, the buff dude starred on B'way in the über-campy Xanadu and Elvis musical All Shook Up, and he's about to play the lead role in Finian's Rainbow this fall—guess he's gonna be one totally busy guy!

So who's Chey gonna play on the Emmy-winning comedy? Another superhot love interest for Tina Fey now that Jon Hamm's gone? A rival page to Kenneth? Alec Baldwin's long lost son? No word yet, but like we give a damn—any hunk the show wants to throw us, we're totally fine with!

That Old Devil Moon Shines on Finian's Rainbow Video Sneak Peek

Fans of romance, dancing, the luck o’ the Irish and classic Broadway musicals are definitely in for a treat this season. All of those elements and more are present in the charming musical Finian’s Rainbow, which begins performances on October 8 at the St. James Theatre. Broadway.com caught up with the talented cast, led by Cheyenne Jackson, Kate Baldwin, Tony winner Jim Norton, Christopher Fitzgerald and Tony winner Chuck Cooper at a recent press sneak peek. And what a peek it was! Lush numbers, lots of dancing and loads of laughs. You know you’re in good hands with director/choreographer Warren Carlyle at the helm of the classic musical, which features a book by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy, lyrics by Harburg, music by Burton Lane, book adaptation by Arthur Perlman and original adaptation for New York City Center Encores! (where the production played earlier this year) by David Ives. Take a look and see for yourself!

Glee-Cap: Ep. 5: She Knows About Popular

Brit Elle Woods Makes Legally Blonde Music Vid Debut

Elle Woods is getting ready to touchdown in London, in the form of West End star Sheridan Smith. And they’ve also put together a fun music video for “So Much Better” featuring the London cast. You can watch it below.

Lea Michele Serenades The View Ladies (Plus, a Jonathan Groff Sighting!)

Glee stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith headed to The View on September 30. Who was in the audience to see the pretty and poised pair chat with the Barbara, Whoopi and co.? None other than Michele’s dad (aww!) and former Spring Awakening co-star Jonathan Groff (OMG!). How cute is it that Michele and Groff are still besties? Oh, and don’t miss Michele feigning modesty and then launching into a classic song made famous by uber-diva Barbra Streisand. Which number did that honey voice sing? Click on and see for yourself.

'I'm a Believer' Goes from Screen to Stage in Shrek the Musical

“I’m in love….oooooh!” The 1966 Monkees hit “I’m a Believer” has been added to Shrek the Musical. A popular element in the first Shrek feature film (in which it was sung by Smash Mouth and Eddie Murphy, who played Donkey), the song had previously been played in an instrumental version as audiences left the theater. Beginning on October 2 the entire company will perform “I’m a Believer” from the stage of the Broadway Theatre.

Composed by Neil Diamond, “I’m a Believer” became a number 1 hit for the Monkees on December 31, 1966, and remained there for seven weeks, becoming the biggest-selling record of 1967. It was featured on the soundtrack for the first Shrek film in 2001.

Shrek the Musical stars Brian d’Arcy James as Shrek, Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad, Daniel Breaker as Donkey and Robb Sapp as Pinocchio.

The cast also features Cameron Adams, Tessa Albertson, Rōzi Baker, Haven Burton, Bobby Daye, Ryan Duncan, Sarah Jane Everman, Maya Goldman, Justin Greer, Colleen Hawks, Lisa Ho, Chris Hoch, Marty Lawson, Jacob Ming-Trent, Carolyn Ockert-Haythe, Denny Paschall, Keven Quillon, Noah Rivera, Heather Jane Rolff, Jennifer Simard, Rachel Stern, Dennis Stowe, David F.M. Vaughn, Maia Nkenge Wilson, Ryan Worsing and Kirsten Wyatt.

Musical Adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda

Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus, who helmed the recent child-rearing hit God of Carnage, is set to direct another story about parents and children—though this one will appropriate for kids. The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced it will adapt the late Roald Dahl’s beloved novella Matilda into a musical, set to open at Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon with direction by Warchus, music and lyrics by Australian comedian Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly. No casting for the show, which will debut in time for Christmas 2010, has been announced at this time.

Welsh author Dahl penned dozens of books for both children and adults over his lifetime, including such page to screen hits as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Matilda is Dahl’s 1988 tale about a child prodigy who uses superior brain power to battle her unloving parents and a formiddable school principal known as “The Trunchbull.” It was adapted for the screen in 1996, featured Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman as Matilda’s detestable parents, Pem Ferris as Agatha Trunchbull and Mara Wilson as the adorable title star.

“We are so proud that Roald’s stories continue to be met with such excitement and joy by children all over the world,” Dahl’s widow, Felicity, expressed in a statement. “With this project, thousands more children will engage wih his magical world yet again.”

Warchus has been a regular presence on the Broadway scene recently, having won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Direction for God of Carnage. Additional Rialto credits include The Normal Conquests, Boeing-Boeing and Art, all of which earned him Tony Award nominations.

Minchin is best known as a musical comedian, a stand-up artist who delivers his unique slant through song. His break-out show Dark Side was a hit at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and he has since gone on to win numerous international comedy awards. His stage credits include work with the Perth Theatre Company and the Australian Shakespeare Company, and he can be heard on the albums for So Rock, Tim Minchin and Friends and Ready for This?.
