An 'Enchanted' Sequel Will Sing It's Way Into Theaters

Despite the mess of a film that was "Leap Year," audiences (and us over here at Hollywood Crush) love Amy Adams. While she's been around for several years, surfacing in "Catch Me If You Can," "Talladega Nights" and even several episodes of "The Office," it's hard to argue that the film that threw her out into the public awareness was 2007's"Enchanted."

The film made more than $127 million in domestic theaters — a piddling amount when compared to "Avatar," but reasonable nonetheless — and earned its place in the hearts of audiences. The tongue-in-cheek romantic comedy showed Disney knew how to make fun of itself, and the great soundtrack earned them several Oscar nominations to boot (though they lost to "Once"). All in all, the film was a great success story for everyone involved.

So it's little surprise that Variety announced yesterday that Disney has an "Enchanted" sequel in the works, scheduled to begin development as soon as next year. While the original cast of Amy,James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey and Idina Menzel has yet to be confirmed, it can be assumed that Disney will try to bring back the original stars to reprise their roles.

Disney is switching up their behind-the-camera leads, though. The original film's screenwriter Bill Kelly ("Premonition," "Blast from the Past") is being replaced with Jessie Nelson ("Because I Said So," "The Story of Us"), and classic Disney director Kevin Lima ("102 Dalmations," "Tarzan") is being replaced with reigning rom-com queen Anne Fletcher ("The Proposal," "27 Dresses"). Original producers Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are slated to reprise their roles.

Hopefully mixing up the creative heads behind the project won't ruin the charm of the original film. Barry Sonnenfeld spent many years tweaking "Enchanted" to be perfect in pre-production until it finally got made, but the combination of Anne and Jessie should manage to recreate the tone of the original film, and maybe even make it better.
